Joe Darby
Joe Darby is a freelancing Contemporary Dancer and Choreographer based in Kent. Currently finishing his Masters Degree at Trinity Laban and recently part of with Laban's Transitions Dance Company. He began dancing at Brockhill Park Performing Arts College (BPPAC) at the age of 15 when he chose dance as one of his GCSE's. He then continued on to do A'level dance and Applied Performing Arts.
Being at BPPAC he was given many opportunites to perform and also was lucky enough to be selected as member of Marchbanks (male youth company of Lea Anderson) for a year-long project with Lea Anderson, on remaking a piece called Flag (1988). This premiered at The Place. The piece was then recalled and casted with some of The Cholmondeleys and Featherstonehaughs. This was to reopen the Royal Festival Hall in London. He joined Instep Dance Company when he was 15 and continued to perform and teach up until He left in 2007 for university.
He was accepted into Chichester University where he graduated in 2010 and was awarded a 1st Class BA Hons Degree. During his time at Chichester University he was contracted in companies such as Lila Dance touring their work Tracker and with The Ballet Boyz (George Piper Dance) and toured Kai Downham's work 'Laws of Motion' on their ‘Greatest Hits’ tour. This led to a commission with the BalletBoyz where they were used as a launch for the Balletboyz II the next generation, where they were featured in the UK Festival 'without Walls'.

Sunday 4th March 2012:
1.30 - 4.30pm: Joe Darby: contemporary dance workshop
This is a release based contemporary dance workshop for absolute beginners. Cross training in other dance disciplines is a great way to improve your skills as a fusion dancer. In this workshop, we will start with a vigorous warm up, to then take us through a series of contemporary dance techniques such as balancing techniques, moving through the spine, finding turn out, floorwork, tendues & plies to work towards a movement sequence towards the end of the class. Please dress in comfortable dance clothing.
