London workshops with Hilde Cannoodt
Bio
Since 1996, Hilde has been passionately involved in dance. Originally from Belgium, Hilde moved to Brighton (UK) in 2004 to pursue her career as a dancer. Being a fusion dancer at heart, she finds inspiration in different dance styles, such as street dance, contemporary dance, jazz, ballet, flamenco, tribal fusion and Egyptian dance techniques. She is director of the Masmoudi dance company and has hosted many sold out shows in Brighton
Hilde's unique teaching style has a very analytical approach, which is utilised to demystify qualities of movement. Using her background in mathematics and her research in choreology (based on Rudolph Laban's work) which she translates directly to her dance practise, she helps students to better understand the ins and outs of a quality of movement. In each workshop she teaches, she also promotes safe dance practise working towards longevity in our dance practise and on how to prevent injuries.

Testimonials of students attending previous workshops with Hilde
'Hilde Cannoodt’s workshops are little factories of creativity and ingenuity. All you could hear in the dressing room by the end of the day from other dancers was how these were the most useful workshops they have ever been to and I cannot disagree with that. She is an experienced dancer educated at the prestigious Laban School of Dance which really shows in her way of presenting her knowledge and the method used for taking dance sequences apart for better understanding.
With different dance styles and traditions she is enriching belly dance in a very innovative way that could easily in subsequent years become a separate school of thought focusing on the body and its powers to express. Hilde is also very knowledgeable as to the subject of general dance anatomy which is so important for us all and we must not let ourselves cut back on it because it truly is the wisdom that can let us dance for ages to come. Her workshops strengthen the body and allow it to break free of restraints through any set of movement that the dancer chooses to execute.
She gave us the base we needed to go beyond the things you pick up on a regular dance class. Besides all this, she is the first oriental dancer that I have known (and correct me if I am wrong) to introduce the concept of the golden section into dance. Actually, it is strange that we do not call upon it more often because it makes perfect sense. Other abstract concepts that she presents (during her 'geek workshop'), she demonstrates with clarity so that we can comprehend, master and use them in our own dance art, whether we are a beginner or a seasoned performer. I hope Hilde will come to Zagreb again. :)'
Marija Solarevic - Croatia workshops 2011
‘Today’s workshop (exercises for group choreography) was extremely inspiring! One of the best workshops I’ve ever attended!!’
Gosia Ziemer – Poland Summer School 2010
‘Hilde’s workshops were amazing. She incorporates a lot of different styles in her technique classes (ballet, jazz, contemporary,…) which all made sense as a whole. She taught in a way that allowed people of all levels to learn at their own pace and I was especially satisfied with ballet exercises that were completely new for me and will help me with my travelling sequences in fusion belly dance. I also liked the group workshop. Hilde gave us some great theoretical information to work towards a beautiful group choreography!’
Joanna Frackowiak – Poland Summer School 2010
‘I was amazed at your teaching of technique – really great! I loved how you explained the basic steps, how to move, how to use my muscles for the best results and how to dance safely. You also gave a lot of personal feedback for each dancer which helps me grow as a dancer. You are also a fantastic dancer with an amazing smile, brilliant technique and great stage presence. It is interesting to me how at first sight not noticeable, you are able to fuse so many different dance styles to create your own unique blend. You are one of the best teachers I have ever had and it is my big wish that you could teach us soon again in the Czech Republic!’
