Traveling to and in Brighton?

If you are coming from out of town, here is some info to help you find your way into and around Brighton.

Airport (nearest airport to Brighton is Gatwick Airport - recommended!)

Going into Brighton from London airports can be by train or coach. Please check train times in advance, as Sunday services are often very slow with a lot of change overs (sometimes replacement bus service)

Coming from Gatwick Airport

When coming from Gatwick Airport, getting into Brighton is very easy. Depending if you are on the North or South terminal, you will need to take the terminal train to the South terminal. Then, follow the signs to the train station (which is within the airport) You can purchase tickets there which are around £ 8 for a single journey to Brighton. I don't think you can purchase a return ticket so just buy another single on your return journey from Brighton to Gatwick. Depending on which train you get, your journey will be 25 - 40 minutes. You want to get off at the end stop, Brighton Station. For train times, go to www.nationalrail.co.uk

Coming from Heathrow Airport

From Heathrow, you could take the underground to Victoria station and from there, take a train to Brighton.

But I find it easier to take the coach that goes from Heathrow Airport straight to Brighton, which will take you the same time as with the train, but saves you the hassle from changing at Victoria. You can book your tickets in advance at www.nationalexpress.co.uk

Coming from Luton Airport

Coming from Luton can be a long journey, about 2.5 hours. Luckily there is a direct train into Brighton. Costs will be around £ 30-£ 40 for a return journey, so if you are saving money to go to Luton you might lose on the train journey instead of going to Gatwick. Check all info at www.nationalexpress.co.uk

Coming from Stansted Airport

Coming from Stansted is not recommended as you have a few change overs and it will take you about 3 hours to get into Brighton. Costs will be around £ 30 for a return journey. Check all info at www.nationalexpress.co.uk

Traveling in Brighton

Taxi

Taxi's are reasonably cheap in Brighton. Brighton is quite a small town so a taxi fare varies between £ 4 - £ 8 depending on which end of town you go to, so sharing a taxi can be cheaper than all go onto the bus. There are taxi stops at a lot of different locations in Brighton, and there is always a taxi stop at Brighton Station, so I recommend taking that one to your hotel to start with, to avoid confusion on public transport. You can also order a taxi to any location by calling 01273 20 40 60 (+44)

Bus

Taking the bus is fairly easy, once you know the routes. You can find all info on www.buses.co.uk Or if you need to get to a specific dance studio, you can find which buses to take for the dance station, the brighton youth centre and the brighton college. For a single, you pay up to £ 2 for one ride, which you need to pay each time you get on a bus, so even when you are changing buses within the hour. So it's better to buy a saver which is about £ 4 and lasts the whole day.

Train

You can take a train into Hove or into Portslade. The Portslade train station is about 10 minutes walk from the Dance Station. Check info at www.nationalrail.co.uk
